Of the 1,450 metric tons of hilsa, 63 metric tons and 240 kg of hilsa were exported to India in the second shipment. On the occasion of Puja, on Tuesday (September 15) afternoon, Hilsa’s shipment in 6 trucks entered the port of Petrapol, India after customs and port formalities.
Earlier Monday, 12 metric tons of hilsa were exported to India by two trucks in the first shipment.
Shamim Hossain, Revenue Petty Officer at Benapole Customs, said the hilsa is exported to India in a duty-free facility at a price of £ 10 per kg.
It became known that the government stopped the export of hilsa after 2012, citing reasons for the decline in production in the country. However, last year 500 tonnes of hilsa were exported to West Bengal, India on the occasion of Durga Puja to enhance friendship and good relations with neighboring countries.
Following this, the government of Bangladesh also allowed the export of 1,450 metric tons of hilsa to West Bengal on the occasion of Durga Puja this year. 9 Exporters in Bangladesh have had the opportunity to export hilsa. According to the terms of the Ministry of Commerce, the remaining hilsa will be exported on October 10 next month.
