The onion shipment, which was put out to tender before Sunday, could be exported from Wednesday, a source said. As a result, Healy land port onion importers are looking at importing onions.
Last Monday (September 14), the Indian government stopped exporting onions to Bangladesh through the land port of Healy under the pretext of a price hike due to the crisis in its domestic market. As a result, an Indian truck carrying between 250 and 300 onions got stuck in the Indian part of the port. These two days of no import from India have a great impact on prices in port markets. In this way, the 40 rupee onion sells for 80-100 rupees in one jump.
Meanwhile, Harun Ur Rashid, chairman of Healy Land Port Importers and Exporters Group, quoted Ramnath Saha, an exporter from Balurghat, India, as saying at 9:30 pm on Tuesday that the government could allow the export of onions to Bangladesh. Onions are believed to be likely to enter Bangladesh through the Healy land port from Wednesday.
He further said that this is the statement of the Indian exporters. But they have not yet received official instructions.
