Dhaka: An operation to remove illegal billboards, signs and banners is underway in the area under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Before the campaign, the DNCC requested the permission of these boards by presenting the prescribed fee.

In response to this, in the first 3 days, several companies took permission for the sign-banner-billboard with the prescribed tax. And through this, DNCC’s income has been a crore 10 lakh rupees.

The DNCC has launched an operation to remove illegal banners and billboards starting Tuesday (September 15). Earlier, in a press release and announcement, the company urged merchants to obtain permission for signs, billboards, and other posters in the prescribed amount with taxes. In the last 3 days, about one crore 10 lakh rupees was deposited in the DNCC treasury.

The Dhaka North City Corporation authorities confirmed the matter. However, the company has not yet declared the total number of companies that have obtained advance permission with taxes.

Meanwhile, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said: “This city is ours, we won in this city.” Our children study, we grew up in this city. You have to love this city. If I don’t love the house where I live, if I spit on the house where I live, it won’t happen. How did the big developers put up their signs today, without paying taxes to city corporations? You will make so many important brands in this city, you will do business and you will not pay any taxes by showing your thumb to the city corporation, it cannot be. I want to tell everyone what kind of sign to put up in the city, first see what the rules of the city corporation are. You can’t do that abroad. Why do it in this country?

He added that this country also has guardians. People want the city to be clean. People want to be able to walk on the sidewalk without any obstacles. In light of this, we are auctioning off various items that are illegally on the sidewalk. In light of this, today we are removing signs, billboards, etc. I would ask people to let us know. Some of them leave building materials on sidewalks and roads.

The mayor added that they are doing business in this city, why don’t they pay taxes? To beautify the city, the municipal corporation has to pay taxes. Today we have started the campaign in Gulshan, Banani and Pragati Sarani. There are policies for placing billboards, signs. When applying them, the policy should be followed. We have issued a public notice in this regard. According to a press release in the media, all the media have published news on this issue, including microphones. Many have received approval by submitting the prescribed rate in the last two days. Such illegal activities cannot continue within a city. This campaign will continue. In addition, the eviction of illegal goods stored on sidewalks and roads will continue.

On the first day of the operation, around 150 illegal signs and billboards were removed in Gulshan-2 under the leadership of Director of Revenue and Executive Magistrate Abdul Hamid Miah.

The eviction campaign was carried out at Banani Road No. 11 under the leadership of Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Motakabbir Ahmed.
