Dhaka: Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said prison security had been tightened after the defendants escaped from jail. At the same time, a flyer letter from Lalmonirhat prison was sent to the intelligence agency for verification.
He was responding to a question from reporters at his interior ministry on Tuesday (September 15).
When asked about increasing security or guards in the country’s prisons in the face of a sudden attack by militants, the Interior Minister said: “It has been done to secure our prisons.” You know, one of our convicts escaped from prison due to the weakness of the prison guards. That is why we are strengthening the prison. So that those incidents don’t happen again. It is not that we have increased the guards there, we have taken steps to ensure that the responsibilities of the guards are properly carried out. Furthermore, we have not been able to eradicate militancy. But I was able to control it.

Regarding the telephone and the letter from the Lalmonirhat Prison, the Minister said: “That letter and that paper always reach us and go to different places.” We never pay attention to this. But we always work with information. We act only when intelligence reaches us. We have sent the flying letters to the detectives and if they think they have any information, we will take action.
When asked about the preparations we have for the deployment of troops on the Myanmar border, he said: “We have seen from our past experience that troops occasionally increase or remain on the border.” This has been informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They called their ambassador and asked him to explain the reasons for the deployment of troops at the border. We are also prepared for any situation on our behalf at any time. This is nothing new.
“We are monitoring the situation,” he said when asked if there were any plans to increase troops on our border. And we are always ready. We have many problems, including the Rohingya. Even then, the Prime Minister remains friendly to neighboring countries. Our political purpose is not enmity with anyone, but friendship with everyone. We follow the instructions of Bangabandhu, including the Prime Minister.
When asked if there were any changes in the agenda of the meeting between BGB and BSF, he said that “the BGB and BSF talks take place every year.” Our BGB DG went there and they came too. This process is ongoing. We are also going to India and the Indian Minister of the Interior is also coming. We have a wonderful relationship. The date can change for any reason. The Home Secretary will visit India via the Agartala-Akhaura land port. However, the CEO of BGB knows how long he will stay.
When asked if there would be any discussion about the killings at the border, he said: “I have no agendas at this time.” However, these issues will be discussed. We have friendly relations with them. Then we will discuss with them all the problems we have.
