A fifth grader has been accused of raping her cousin in Wazirpur, Barisal, who is six months pregnant. The incident has already caused a stir in the upazila.
The girl’s family assures that the uncle of the distant relative from the same house showed fear and various temptations and raped the student more than once and she became pregnant. However, fearing public embarrassment, they did not take the matter to the police and resolved it on their own.
However, locals say that these incidents must be brought to justice. If properly investigated, the accused should be severely punished by law.
According to the victim’s family sources, Aminul Khan, 22, son of Karim Khan from Mugakathi village in Bamrail, union of the Upazila, has been charged. The child victim is the daughter of Aminul Khan’s cousin from the same household. Recently, when the family became suspicious after seeing the physical condition of the girl, her pregnancy was detected. The student boy then recounted the entire incident to locals, including his family.
The victim’s mother said: ‘The accused is his cousin Aminul. So both families have resolved the matter without filing a case at the police station.
However, when asked about the deal, he could not give a satisfactory answer.
Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Wazirpur Model Police Station, Md Ziaul Ahsan, said about the incident that no such incident has yet been reported. If the child’s family complains, legal action must be taken.
