They say that Rabiul was in his own home in Biral Upazila the night he was attacked when he entered Wahida Khanam’s home at the Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad Complex.
UP local president Amjad Hossain has demanded a high-level investigation into the incident, claiming that Rabiul was the victim of a conspiracy.
Rabiul was a gardener at Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad. He was recently fired. His house is in the village of Bhimpur de Bijora junction of Biral upazila, 100 km from Ghoraghat.
On the night of September 2, UNO Wahida from Ghoraghat in Dinajpur and her father Omar Ali were attacked after entering the house with a fan. Wahida, who was seriously injured by a hammer blow to the head, is now receiving treatment at a Dhaka hospital.
RAB-13 captain Reza Ahmed Ferdous, who arrested three people two days after the incident, attended a press conference in Rangpur and said the incident was a robbery.
According to the RAB, a Juba League activist named Asadul Haque (35) entered to rob and beat UNO. His associates were Nabirul Islam (34) and Santu Kumar Biswas (26).
Asadul has “admitted his involvement” in the attack, RAB officials said.

However, the Bangladesh Administrative Services Association, an organization of government administration officials, objected to the incident as a mere theft. The association’s leaders claimed that the attack on Wahidar was planned.
Later on Saturday, Rangpur Range DIG Devdas Bhattacharya told a press conference in Dinajpur that Rabiul had been arrested and the hammer used in the attack had been recovered. Rabiul also “admitted” to being involved in the attack.
When the journalists went to the village of Bhimpur in Biral on Saturday afternoon, the neighbors came forward and began to speak in Rabiul’s favor. His house is also full of people.
Neighbor Masood Rana told bdnews24.com that they had said Esha’s prayers together with Rabiul on the night of September 2 and that they had worked on the land the next morning.
Others also supported his words.
A neighbor named Raushan Ara also said that he saw Rabiul return home from the city on the afternoon of September 2 and head to the rice field the next morning.
Rabiul may have been involved in such incidents, which the others in the village do not want to believe.
Demanding a high-level investigation into the incident, Bijora Union President Amjad Hossain told bdnews24.com: “There is a major conspiracy here.
“I have not received a single complaint against any member of Rabiul’s family who has been serving on the union council for almost 36 years.”
However, they said nothing about Rabiul’s firing.
A Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad employee told bdnews24.com on Saturday that he had been suspended for stealing money.
Rabiul’s brother, Mohsin, said that on the night of September 9, the DB police took Rabiul from his home. The next day, he took Rabiul’s wife, Shabnaz, and his mother, Rahima Begum.
Rabiul’s brother alleged that DB police tried to force him to confess by showing fear.
When asked about the reaction of locals, including Rabiul’s family, to the allegations, the investigating officer on the case, District DB OC Imam Zafar, told bdnews24.com: “You can say it verbally.
“However, we have evidence that Rabiul was involved in the incident and was there on the day of the incident.”
After showing Rabiul’s arrest on September 11, the DB is now questioning him in custody through the court.
However, the police have not yet revealed why Rabiul attacked.
