BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names of the candidates on Sunday, a day after a virtual interview with the candidates at the president’s office in Gulshan.
He said: “Our party is Salahuddin Ahmed in the Dhaka-5 constituency and Sheikh Mohammad in the Naogaon-6 constituency. Rezaul Islam has been nominated ”.
According to the schedule announced by the Electoral Commission, voting in these two by-elections will take place on October 18.
With the death of Habibur Rahman Mollah of Awami League, Dhaka-5 and with the death of Israfil Alam, the Naogaon-6 seats were vacated.
Former MP Salahuddin Ahmed is currently BNP’s Secretary of Commerce. He has been a Member of Parliament for Paddy Sheaf for three terms since 1991.
And Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam is a member of the convening committee of BNP Naogaon District. He was also chairman of the Atrai Police Station previously.
Meanwhile, the schedule for by-elections in the Dhaka-17 and Sirajganj-1 constituencies has not yet been announced. With the death of Mohammad Nasim, Sirajganj-1 and the death of Sahara Khatun, the seats of Dhaka-17 were vacated.
The names of the final candidates for these two seats will be released following the announcement of the schedule by the Electoral Commission, the secretary general said.
BNP’s parliamentary board has interviewed 26 candidates to contest by-elections in these four vacant National Assembly seats.
The virtual interviews were held at the president’s office in Gulshan from 5 pm to 8:40 pm on Saturday.
Six candidates were interviewed in Dhaka-5, nine in Naogaon-6, nine in Dhaka-17 and four in Sirajganj-1.
Salahuddin Ahmed, Selim Bhuiyan, Nabi Ullah Nabi, Maryland. They offered interviews to be candidates in the Dhaka-5 constituency. Jumman Mia, Akbar Hossain Nantu, Anwar Hossain Sardar.
Naogaon-6 candidates Anwar Hossain Bulu, Sheikh Abdus Shukur, SM Al Farooq James, Mahmudul Arefin Swapan, Ishaq Ali, Atiqur Rahman Ratan Mollah, Sheikh Mohammad. Rezaul Islam, Md. Shafiqul Islam, said Abu Zahid. Rafiqul Alam granted the interview.
Furthermore, SM Jahangir Hossain, M Kafil Uddin, Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat, Ismail Hossain, Bahauddin Saadi, Mostafizur Rahman Segundo, Mostafa Zaman, Md. Akhter Hossain, Abbas Uddin and TM Tahajibul Islam, Nazmul Hasan Talukder Rana, Rabiul Hasan also and Selim Reza also gave interviews in the Sirajganj-1 constituency.
