Foreign Ministry officials told bdnews24.com that Aung San Suu Kyi was subpoenaed on Sunday afternoon.
When asked about this, Delwar Hossain, director general of the Myanmar wing of the ministry, said: “We called him and expressed our concerns. I told him to convey our message to the appropriate authorities.”
Several media outlets have reported suspicious movements of Myanmar troops on fishing trawlers at the international border between Bangladesh and Myanmar since Friday morning.
The locals said they had seen the presence of Myanmar troops at various points in the border area in recent days.
Officials at the Foreign Ministry have suggested that troops may be in and out of Rakhine’s Arakan Army as part of the ongoing conflict.
There are reasons for concern in Bangladesh if such suspicious activities take place. After the military operation in Rakhine three years ago, millions of Rohingya fled to Bangladesh in the face of repression.
A Foreign Ministry official told bdnews24.com: “There are Rohingya people in the conflict zone in Rakhine. That is why it is very worrying for us. Again, if for some reason the pressure on us will increase on behalf of Rohingya Dhal.” .
Within months of the start of the military operation in Rakhine on August 25, 2016, more than seven lakhs of Rohingya arrived in Bangladesh and took refuge. There were already four more lakhs of Rohingya in Bangladesh.
Despite international pressure, the Myanmar government signed an agreement with Bangladesh in late 2016 to win back the Rohingya, but repatriation has yet to begin.
Despite two repatriation attempts last year, the Rohingya refused to return, citing environmental concerns in Rakhine state.
The ambassador was also asked to be concerned about the troop deployment in Rakhine, as well as to take steps to repatriate the Rohingya, ministry officials said.
