The Titas Gas Authority has appealed to the High Court to suspend the High Court order to initially pay Rs 5 lakhs compensation to the families of each of the victims of the explosion at the Baitus Salat Mosque on the west floor of Narayanganj.
Barrister Mezbahur Rahman, a lawyer for the Titas Gas Authority, filed the request on Sunday (September 13).
Attorney Mezbahur said the appeal was on the agenda of the Appellate Division Chamber Court of Judges today for its hearing.
Thirty-seven worshipers were burned in an explosion at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in the western part of Fatulla in Narayanganj on Friday night. They were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit. So far 31 deaths have been reported there. Five more are being treated in the ICU in critical condition.
The report, published in various national newspapers, was brought to the attention of the high court headed by Judge JBM Hasan on September 8. He called for compensation of Rs 50 lakh each for the families of the dead and injured and for motivated instructions to take action against those responsible. However, the court did not issue a spontaneous order and recommended that the lawyer file a writ petition.
In this case, a writ petition was filed in the corresponding section of the Superior Court. The lawyer Taimur Alam Khandaker then submitted the application to the appropriate court.
According to the car’s request, the mosque’s management committee and local residents brought the matter to the attention of the Titas Gas Authority. But officials from the local Titas Gas office demanded 50,000 rupees to repair the line. The accident occurred due to the negligence of the person concerned.
