A court has sentenced seven defendants to death in the murder case of Anil Kumar Das, a (retired) school teacher from Rasulpur village under Tangail Sadar Police Station, and his wife Kalpana Das.
Today, Sunday, the speedy trial court of judge Abu Zafar. The Kamruzzaman court delivered the verdict.
The convicts sentenced to death are Swapan Kumar Das, Md. Jahidul Islam, Md. Farhad, Maryland Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan, Manjurul Islam Monju, Maryland. Shayan Mia.
According to the details of the case, the defendant Swapan Kumar Das, in collusion with other defendants, began planning to embezzle the property of Anil Kumar Das and his wife Kalpana Das. Swapan Kumar Das, along with other defendants, planned to sign three stamps with Anil Kumar to embezzle his property. Subsequently, on the night of July 26, 2016, the accused went to the home of Anil Kumar Das and killed him and his wife. After the murder, 10 sacks of bricks were filled around their necks and left in the septic tank in the home’s bathroom. Later, the police recovered two bodies from there.
Two days later, on July 28, the victim’s son, Nirmal Kumar Das, filed a case with the Model Tangail Police Station. The charge sheet was filed in court on September 17, 2016. On August 7, 2019, the court entered charges against the defendants. During the trial, the court heard the testimony of 26 of the 35 witnesses named in the indictment.
Between the defendants Zahidul Islam and Md. Farhad has given a confessional statement in court.
