Supporters fight before BNP nominees interview began

Clashes broke out between supporters of four candidates for two parliamentary seats in Dhaka before interviews of BNP candidates for the four vacant seats in Jatiya Sangsad began. The incident took place around 4 pm on Saturday (September 12) at the party chairman’s political office in Gulshan, the capital, before virtual interviews with the candidates began.

M Kafil Uddin Ahmed alleged that SM Jahangir Hossain’s men had beaten his followers. 10-12 workers were injured. Ershad Master, a teacher at a school in Uttarkhand, was seriously injured and Nazimuddin, a resident of Faidabad in Dakshin Khan, was admitted to hospital with injuries.

SM Jahangir Hossain said: “I entered the president’s office around four o’clock. Later I heard that there was a little confrontation between the fans when Kafil Uddin entered. Inside, we were both together. I will investigate the incident. Organizational measures will be taken against the culprits.

There was no one in Gulshan’s office except the candidates. Members of the Nominating Board, including the party’s general secretary, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, conducted virtual interviews.
