Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi officer from Dinajpur, Wahida Khanam, and her father Mali Rabiul Islam, who was suspended from office, pleaded guilty to participating in the attack on their father. He said that three of Rabiul’s seven brothers work in the Dinajpur municipality. One brother worked in the deputy commissioner’s circuit house. He got married two years ago. Rabiul was arrested at his home in the Bijora union village of Bijora in Biral upazila on Wednesday night.
Devdas Bhattacharya said: “Rabiul Islam has admitted his involvement in the attack. Police have been conducting day and night investigations for the past few days to identify the cause of the crime and those involved. The arrested person will be referred for further questioning to obtain information about the incident and obtain complete information.
He said that after Rabiul’s arrest, some posters like his were also recovered. As well as being viewed alongside CCTV footage.
When asked about the motive for the attack, he said: “Rabiul Islam’s home is in the Bijora village of Biral. The matter is now under investigation. So once the investigation is over, one can speak openly.
He also said that the hammer used as a weapon in the attack on UNO and his father was recovered.
When asked if anyone else was involved with Rabiul, he said: “It can’t be said until the investigation is over.”
When asked what the confession of Asadul Islam, who until now has been regarded as the main defendant in the case, would look like to the RAB, the DIG said: “The RAB officer is a smart officer and a good person. See why Asadul told you about his involvement. It may be that he was wrong. All the issues are being investigated. When asked about the theft or something else, he said: “I will not comment further.”
Dinajpur Police Superintendent Anwar Hossain, Additional Police Superintendent Sachin Chakma, Additional Police Superintendent Hafizur Rahman, Investigative Officer DB OC Imam Zafar and other officials were present during the briefing. The police want 10 days of preventive detention for Rabiul Islam after a press conference. The court granted him a preventive detention of six days.
A police officer said that Rabiul carried out the attack out of resentment after being fired from his job. More people are involved in this. A district administration official also said the same. So several have been kept under surveillance and several have been detained for questioning.
