Police arrested 43-year-old Rabiul Islam, who was suspended for attacking Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi (UN) officer Wahida Khanam and his father, freedom fighter Omar Ali Sheikh, after entering a government residence in Dinajpur. . Bangladesh Rangpur Range Police DIG Devdas Bhattacharya said this at a press conference at the Dinajpur Police Superintendent (SP) office at 3:30 pm on Saturday (September 12). Present at the press conference were Dinajpur Police Superintendent Anwar Hossain, Additional Police Superintendent Sachin Chakma, Additional Police Superintendent Hafizur Rahman, Investigative Officer DB OC Imam Zafar and other officials.
DIG Devdas Bhattacharya said that Rabiul was arrested on Friday (September 11). He is the son of Khatib Uddin from Bijora village in Bijora junction of Biral upazila district. He worked as a gardener in the officer’s office for Upazila Nirbahi.
At a press conference, DIG Devdas Bhattacharya said: “Ghoraghat officer Upazila Nirbahi (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father were attacked on the night of September 2. The police have been working tirelessly since the incident. After this, we arrested a suspended government employee named Rabiul Islam. The detainee Rabiul initially admitted his responsibility to the police. Based on your information, we have recovered several clues. Furthermore, his statement and the seized evidence were found to be similar to the CCTV footage. We will request his remand in a wise court for further questioning.
After a press conference, Rabiul and Asadul, identified as the main defendants in the case, were handed over to the court. Asadul Islam was in preventive detention for seven days. Today, the Detective Section (DB) of the police handed him over to the court after pre-trial detention. Additionally, the night watchman Nadim Hossain Palash from UNO’s residence has been sent to jail through the court. Rabiul Islam has been arrested in this case and is in pre-trial detention for seven days.
The criminals entered the official UN residence at the Upazila Parishad facility on September 2 at around 2:30 p.m. and attacked it. First they tied the doorman to the door. Subsequently, the assailants went to the back of the house, climbed the ladder, smashed the fan and entered the house. They entered and stabbed UNO Waheeda with heavy, sharp weapons, severely wounding her. When the girl came to save her daughter, the criminals wounded the freedom fighter Omar Ali Sheikh (60). Later, when they fainted, the assailants thought they were dead and fled. In the morning, the locals rescued them.
Waheeda was taken first to Rangpur and then from Rangpur to Dhaka by air ambulance. He is currently being treated at the Hospital of the National Institute of Neurosciences.
