Lalmonirhat: In the absence of livestock, Lalmonirhat Police Superintendent (SP) Abida Sultana and the Bashundhara group, the country’s largest industrial conglomerate, stood by Chaiful, who leads his family making oil by grinding himself.
On Thursday (September 10) afternoon, the SP visited Chaiful’s home and donated a cow.
Earlier on Wednesday (September 9), Afroza Begum, wife of Bashundhara Group President Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, paid Tk 1 lakh for the construction of the Chaiful house and for the education of the children. The Bashundhara LP Gas Authority bought a cow to pull the mill.
Chaiful Islam (48) is a resident of Telipara village in the Kakina junction of Kaliganj upazila.
Chhaiful’s parental occupation is known to be making mustard oil by breaking the grinder at home and selling it on the market. Although the demand for refined oil has declined in the modern era, he has led his family for 25 years sticking to his ancestral profession. Although cows were needed to pull the mill, there was no money to buy Chaiful cows. Unable to find a way to handle the family of five, including the cost of educating three children, he used to grind oil instead of cows. His wife Morsheda Begum assisted him in this work.
An image of himself pulling an oil mill in the absence of cows has recently spread on social media. The news was also published in the media. Then the sad image of Chaiful’s harsh life came to the attention of many in the administration, including the Bashundhara group. Seeing this, many extended their helping hand to him.
On Wednesday (September 9), Afroza Begum, the wife of the president of the Bashundhara Group, sent a lakh of rupees to Chaiful’s home. At the same time, LP Gas bought him a cow.
Lalmonirhat (SP) Police Superintendent Abida Sultana came to his home on Thursday (September 10) with a cow to help Chaiful. He was accompanied by Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Atiqul Islam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Circle B) Tapash Kumar, Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Kaliganj Police Station, Sajjad Hossain, and President of Kakina Union Parishad (UP), Shahidul Haque.
Chaiful Islam is very happy to get money and cows. He told banglanews: ‘This time my pain is gone, bro. May Allah bless those who bought money and cows. I will always pray for them. Now the income will be better. The education of boys and girls will also go well. ‘
