Dhaka: Again there are rumors about the position of secretary general of the BNP. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is said to have been removed from office and someone else bears responsibility.
But top party leaders say it is a rumor. Is not true. This propaganda is being carried out to create division within the party.
BNP’s organizational activities have been suspended due to Corona. Therefore, none of the party’s political leaders agreed to give a detailed statement about this rumor.

Khandaker Delwar Hossain, the then Secretary General of BNP, died on March 18, 2011 while undergoing treatment in Singapore. A few days after his death, on the eve of his visit to Saudi Arabia, BNP President Khaleda Zia gave Mirza Fakhrul the responsibility to continue as the party’s general secretary. Although there is no acting secretary general post in the party constitution, Mirza Fakhrul remained at BNP for approximately 5 years as acting secretary general.

Mirza Fakhrul is in charge from 2011 to 2020. In 2016, the president went to jail. The acting president is already in exile in London. Although the party president is currently out of jail, she is behind politics. Physical illness, Corona’s condition and the condition of the government in general make Khaleda Zia unlikely to get involved in politics anytime soon. The Acting President leads the team via Skype. And Mirza Fakhrul has to lead from the front. Meanwhile, there have been rumors inside and outside the party that the general secretary has been changed many times. But those rumors did not come true.
Sources said similar rumors have started inside and outside the match. It is said that a new secretary general will arrive at BNP. Since the acting president is Tareq Rahman, senior rank-and-file leaders believe that one of his followers will take on this responsibility. The question is: Is Mirza Fakhrul not loyal to Tareq Rahman? Trinamool leaders say that of course Mirza Fakhrul is also loyal to Tarique Rahman. If not, how could he stay in the post of secretary general for so long? However, since he is about ten years old, it is not strange that someone else has come to this position.
At least three leaders are known to have been listed for the post of secretary general. The most notable of them is former Commerce Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the standing committee. On the other hand, the name of Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku is also heard, who got a place on the permanent committee by beating many elders. He is also a very close follower of Tareq Rahman. From 2001 to 2006, he served as Minister of State for Energy of the Tareq Zone. The leader, who is influential in Sirajganj politics, currently heads two party committees. After the Corona situation, he was the convener of the party’s National Crown Monitoring Committee, and later he was also the convener of the relief committee formed by the party in the flood situation.
On the other hand, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party’s most trusted “full-time” politician and senior deputy general secretary, is running for the job.

Since its inception on September 1, 1986, six BNP leaders have served as general secretaries. They are- Founding Secretary General Prof. AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury (1986-8), Second Secretary General Colonel (Ret.) Mostafizur Rahman (198-198), Third Secretary General KM Obaidur Rahman (198-198), Fourth Secretary General Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder (198-1998). Fifth Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan (1996-2006), Sixth Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain (2006-2011), Seventh and current Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (in office from 2011 to March 29, 2017 and in full office since March 30, 2017).
