Globe Biotech Limited, the only company in Bangladesh to have claimed the coronavirus vaccine, will complete the animal test next week. They expect to have a human trial in late September.
This information was delivered to Jago News on Wednesday evening (9 September) by the Deputy Manager and Head of the Research and Development Department of Globe Biotech Limited, Dr. Asif Mahmood and Mohammad Mohiuddin, manager of the organization and responsible for operations regulatory and quality standards, and member of the vaccine research team.
Asif Mahmud said: ‘I am in the last stage of the animal test. Data collection in progress. We have a ready candidate. The data that has come in so far is very promising. Even then, if it’s not over, we can’t say anything definitive. Once the animal trial data is complete, I will apply for the human trial from the BMRC (Bangladesh Medical Research Council).
In this regard, Mohammad Mohiuddin said: ‘By the end of next week, we will be able to present the Animal Study report with data. Then I can apply to BMRC through CRO for a clinical trial.
Mohammad Mohiuddin further said: “We have an international standard animal study center at Rupganj in Narayanganj. We are conducting animal testing on 39 small mice. I am working on protocol development with CRO. We are already developing a protocol. The CRO has reviewed it. The protocol will be finalized. The complete data from the animal study will also come out. Then we’ll send it to BMRC. ‘
Asif Mahmud and Mohammad Mohiuddin said there are three steps in the clinical trial. The three steps usually take three months. Hopefully, if we can start in late September, we can finish the clinical trial in late December.
