The Indian Cricket Board does not allow its cricketers to play in foreign leagues to maintain its “elite” image. The tenth edition of Big Bash begins on December 3. It will continue until February 8. Yuvraj Singh, a former star from India, has expressed interest in playing in this year’s tournament.
If the left-arm all-rounder finally lands on Australian soil to play in the tournament, it will be the first time an Indian cricketer has played Big Bash. The nation’s cricketers may not play in any T20 league abroad without the permission of the Indian Cricket Board. Even after retiring, Yuvraj played in the Global Twenty20 tournament in Canada and the T20 tournament in Abu Dhabi with a Certificate of No Objection (NOC) from the board.
Jason Warne, the manager of the former World Cup winning star from India, said talks are underway with Cricket Australia to allow Yuvraj to play for the club. Cricket Australia also wants Indian cricketers to play Big Bash. They think this will increase the quality of the tournament.
