Sohail, 30, son of Manu Mia, Abu Musa, 19, son of Abu Shaheen from Harikhola Mazar Bari and Sanaullah, 35, son of Motaleb Mia from Mohanpur village.
According to local sources, a young man named Sumon Mia met a 27-year-old worker from a textile factory in Chandina, Comilla. After a love affair between the two for about three months, the woman married another man. But her boyfriend Sumon couldn’t accept her marriage elsewhere.
At 8pm on Friday, her boyfriend Sumon Mia called her boyfriend’s cell phone and said that her husband had been detained. Upon hearing the news, his ex-girlfriend Chandina came to the Harikhola shrine area and met Sumon Miah. When the girl wanted to find her husband, Sumon handed her over to seven young men and ran away. The seven young men took her to a secluded place by the pond and raped her in turn.
The officer in charge of the Chandina Police Station, Shamsuddin Mohammad Elias, confirmed the incident and said that a gang rape case has been filed against seven rapists, including her boyfriend Sumon Mia. As soon as we received the complaint, we arrested seven people, including her boyfriend Sumon, overnight. I’ve been able to arrest everyone except one defendant named Farooq. During preliminary questioning, they confessed to the rape.
