June 2001 to September 2020. It has been about 19 years. After 19 years, Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman said that BNP leaders were not involved in the June 16, 2001 bombing at the Chashara Awami League office.
He testified in court on Monday. And saying, I don’t want innocent people to be punished. He demanded a new investigation of the case.
The BNP president’s adviser, lawyer Taimur Alam Khandaker, and BNP’s lead adviser, Shawkat Hashem Shaku, and others are charged in the case.
Deputy Shamim Osman testified at the Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Court of Judges, saying: “I do not want innocent people to be punished in this case.” I do not believe that the BNP leaders, Taimur Alam and Shaku, were involved in this incident.
While Shamim Osman was testifying in court, the organizing secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan BNP and local councilor Shawkat Hashem Shaku were present in the dock.
After testifying, Shamim Osman spoke in front of reporters. He said that the worst bomb explosion in the history of Bangladesh took place on June 16, 2001. On this basis, an attempt was made to assassinate Sheikh Hasina on August 21, 2004. Today was my testimony. I am very surprised and amazed. I was the main victim of this incident. The testimony that I took as the main victim did not match what I saw. That is why we have requested the court to convene the case investigation officer to the court and for a proper investigation of the case. Because we want the real culprits to be punished. There are also names of people in this case who are not involved in this case.
Describing the incident, Shamim Osman said: “On the day of the attack, Obaidullah Haque’s uncle from our neighborhood came to the Awami League office.” Khokon called a meeting and I went for it. Wadullah’s uncle went and said that his family would go abroad to certify the newspaper. I saw many mistakes on paper. I told him I couldn’t do it. He got excited. At one point he asked to give a certificate of character. I said I’ll go to your house tomorrow morning. He got excited again and said, give it up now. Later he left the office. Shortly afterwards there was an explosion.
Shamim said: “I told the police to investigate and verify if all four had passports.” The investigation showed that he did not have a passport. Mr. Obaidullah was arrested. His family went to the police station at night. He went and started making a lot of noise. Why would this old man do this? At that time the police were also hesitant. If the work is correct. The OC left at night, but Mr. Obaidullah’s family stayed up all night. In the morning the OC arrived, opened the drawer and saw that it was explosive. I went abroad for treatment. After returning, the election took place. The team said choose. Meanwhile, we were charged with responsibility for the bombing. Judge Mia arranged the drama. An appeal was filed in 2004 and the verdict of the investigation came in 2006. I testified, but now there is no similarity to that testimony. My testimony is wrong. After handing over the charge sheet, I no longer saw that Obaidullah. What a damn life we understand.
Shamim Osman said: “I have already informed the Minister of the Interior, the secretary general of the party, I do not accept this charge sheet, this statement.” Because I will not do any negotiations here. They went to kill me and killed 20 more people like cowards. If I don’t survive, this case must be handled properly. Those who are truly guilty must be brought to justice and those who are innocent must not be brought to justice, no matter what the BNP or the Jatiya Party does. The court was convinced in my statement and ordered the additional PP to submit a petition. A criminal can overcome loopholes. There is nothing wrong with us. In the absence of the same law, even if an innocent person is my enemy, he should not be punished.
In response to a question, Shamim Osman said: “I do not consider anyone guilty until there is a proper investigation.” And I don’t think Councilor Shaku is involved.
When asked about this, BNP leader Shawkat Hashem Shaku, Councilor for District 12 of Narayanganj City Corporation, said: “Mr. MP is right. That’s the truth. Neither I nor Timur’s brother were involved in the incident. All the problems that we have had to end up to now have ended with this word from the Member.
