Four people, including the president of upazila, were killed in a collision between a Pajero minibus and a truck in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj. His name is President Nazmul Islam (Kajal). He is the chairman of Bagharpara Upazila Parishad of the Jessore district. A woman was injured in the incident.
The accident took place in the Nayapara area of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in upazila on Monday afternoon. Upon receiving the news, the Madhabpur Fire Service and Thana Police with the help of the local population rescued the injured and sent them to hospital.
Witnesses said that a Pajero minibus heading from Dhaka to Sylhet collided with a truck heading from Sylhet to Brahmanbaria at the time. Two people, including the driver of the minibus, were killed on the spot. Another male passenger, including Magrifat Mim alias Naurin Akhter (24) and Ankhi Akhter (20), daughter of Dhaka Taltola resident Babul Miah, was transferred to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries. Later, the doctor on duty declared Ankhi Akhter and the unidentified male passenger dead.
Taufiqul Alam, officer in charge of the Shayestaganj Highway Police, confirmed the matter. “Three of the four victims have been identified,” he said. They are the chairman of Bagharpara Upazila Parishad and a resident of Karimpur village of upazila Nazmul Islam (Kajal), Ariful Islam from the same area and Ankhi Akter, daughter of Babul Miah from Dhaka Taltola area. The identity of the other has yet to be confirmed.
The police officer further said: ‘The police recovered the body and sent it to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for autopsy. Police are working to find out the identities of the dead.
