Locals have alleged that the Titas Gas Authority has cut off gas supplies to surrounding areas, including Paschim Talla and Sabujbagh, since the explosion at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque on the west floor of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. For the past three days, the stoves in houses in the Talla and Sabujbagh areas have not been turned on. Many people cook bamboo and wood with bricks inside pucca buildings and tin houses. Housewives in the area are in a situation of extreme distress because the gas connection is disconnected.
Low-income people working in various garment factories including Fakir Knitwear, Model D Capital Garments, Khwaja Garments and Knit Concern located in the Talla Kayempur and Godnail areas live in West Talla and Sabujbagh. Titas Gas authorities cut off gas supplies to two areas shortly after the explosion during Esha prayers at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque. As a result, the residents of the two areas are experiencing a food crisis because they cannot cook. Many people live in Konom buying dry food from stores or bringing food from hotels. After the explosion, the mosque committee and locals complained that the explosion was caused by a gas leak in the mosque. Since then, the gas supply to the area has been cut off.
Monirul Islam, a resident of the west floor, said that the Titas Gas Authority cut off gas supplies to the west floor and Subajbagh areas immediately after the explosion at the mosque. As a result, cooking at home stops. The stove does not burn. I spend my days eating dry food from outside. He said the stoves were not turned on because there was no gas in the homes of 20,000 families in these two areas.
Rozina Islam, a housewife from the same area, said that after the blast at the mosque, people from the Titas Gas Office arrived in the dead of night and cut off the gas supply. As a result, we were unable to cook on the gas stove for three days and spent the day eating banana bread with our boys and girls. She said that due to the disconnection of the gas connection, people have to buy food in the surrounding hotels and restaurants. We are low-income people. It is not possible to buy food at the hotel every day. Therefore, we demand to repair the faulty gas line by providing quick reconnection of the gas.
The director of a local university claimed that people in intensive work areas were suffering due to a lack of gas supply. Titus officials have not been found since the mosque blast. He demanded that the concerned authorities repair the faulty line and refuel the area with gas.

In this regard, the deputy director general of the Narayanganj Titas gas office, Modh Mofizul Islam, said that the gas line in the area was disconnected so that no accident occurs again after the explosion in the mosque. Hopefully by tomorrow (Monday) the gas connection will be reconnected to the gas supply line. He said that if any fault was found in the gas line, it would be rectified.
Meanwhile, Narayanganj Titas’ office formed a four-member investigative committee immediately after the blast. Deputy Director General Modh Mofizul Islam is the head of the investigation committee. He said the investigation committee is working. I declined to comment during the investigation.
By the way, the explosion took place during Esha prayers on Friday (September 4) evening. Many people were performing sunnat and other prayers at the end of the obligatory prayers. At that time there were about 40 worshipers inside the mosque. Almost all of them were burned by the explosion. About 24 of them have died so far.
