Wahida Sifat, former student of the Department of Mass Communication at Rajshahi University. Asif got married in 2010. But after a while, the conflict started in her family.
Sifat died on March 29, 2015 at her father-in-law’s home. Later, her family accused her husband Asif of torture.
An autopsy was conducted at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on the basis of the allegations. Mentions that Sifat committed suicide.
But on April 2 of that year, Sifat’s uncle, Mizanur Rahman Khandaker, brought a murder case to the Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi. In the case it was alleged that Sifat was killed for demanding a dowry of Tk 20 lakh.
After the court order, Sifat’s body was pulled from the grave and an autopsy was performed again at Rangpur Medical College. The second autopsy report said Sifat had signs of a head injury.

After the police investigation, Sifat’s husband, Asif Presley, Asif’s father, Mohammad, was charged with inciting suicide. Ramzan Hossain, her mother Nazmun Nahar, and the first autopsy doctor, Jobaidur Rahman, were charged on March 22, 2016.
The case was sent to the Dhaka No. 3 Speedy Trial Court for trial on November 11, 2016.
After the trial, the court sentenced Asif (Sifat’s husband) to 10 years in prison and a fine of Tk 10,000 on February 28, 2016 for inciting suicide under article 307 of the Penal Code.
The other defendants were acquitted by the court of first instance.
Asif and the plaintiffs filed separate appeals in Superior Court against the verdict. The Superior Court ruled after hearing his appeal.
