Narayanganj: Just 20 days before the explosion at the Fatullah mosque in Narayanganj, a delegation led by Gafur Member, chairman of the mosque committee, informed Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited about the gas leak.
The locals have blamed the Titas Gas authorities for the explosion at the mosque.
They allege that the Titas Gas authorities have not taken any action before. If the Titus authorities had taken the initiative, the deaths could not have occurred.
Maulana Mohammad Al-Amin, secretary for religious affairs of the 51-member mosque committee, told banglanews on Saturday (September 5) evening.
Maulana Mohammad Al-Amin said: “We used to smell gas every time we went to prayers.” The smell continued to increase day by day, but the Titas Gas Authority, headed by the chairman of the mosque committee, was informed about it but did not take any action. Gas elevators and lines have passed through the front of the mosque. Titus Gas could have solved it in an hour if the authorities wanted to. They did not. People today may have lost so many lives due to their negligence.
“We did not inform the Titas Gas Authority in writing, it may have been our fault,” he said. And that is what has come to the fore now. Titas Gas authorities have been told that gas is constantly coming out, but they did not arrive. Such incidents could have happened sooner or later.
Earlier on Friday (September 4) at 9:15 pm, 36 people were burned in an air conditioning blast at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in the western part of the Fatulla area of Narayanganj. They were rescued and admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Institute. Eighteen people have already died in the hospital. The condition of the rest of the faithful is also alarming.
