The image of ‘Bir Sainik’ was removed from YouTube today (September 5), two days after a legal notice was sent alleging distortion of the history of the liberation war.
The son of freedom fighter and media worker Maksudul Haque Emu sent the notice on September 3. Director and writer Delwar Jahan Jhantu, producer Sis Media MN Ispahani (Ispahani Arif Jahan) and YouTube owner Md. Jahangir (Lava Movies).
The notice sought the suspension of the promotion and screening of ‘Bir Sainik’, the protagonist of Manna-Mausumi, which was launched 18 years ago. Even this movie based on the liberation war doesn’t mention March 7 anywhere.
In the disclaimer, Emu posed the question, wasn’t March 7, 1971 important? Or did March 7 suddenly come without March 7? The most distorted and ugly scene in this movie is when an actor says to the hero Manna in one place: “Our Bengali commander Ziaur Rahman has declared his independence on Chittagong Radio.” This means that the director wants to say: ‘Zia, the herald of freedom’! Isn’t that a distortion of history?
The story, dialogue, and script of the film is by Delwar Jahan Jhantu. It was uploaded last year to a YouTube channel called Lava Movies.
Emu told the Bengali Tribune on Saturday, “After receiving my legal notice, interested parties may have removed or hidden the image from YouTube.” I am not saying that the image should be removed. The only requirement was that the history of the war of liberation not be distorted. With the correct information, the image can be displayed everywhere. Now I’m looking forward to seeing the revised ‘Bir Sainik’.
However, no comments were received from the defendants.
‘Bir Sainik’ by the Manna-Mausumi duo was released in 2003.
