The Secretary General of the Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Obaidul Quader, has said that the government has again suspended the sentence of BNP President Khaleda Zia for six months on humanitarian grounds. Previously, bail was granted considering the BNP leader’s medical condition.
He spoke at a function organized by the Subcommittee on Relief and Welfare at the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi on Friday morning. Obaidul Quader joined the function through a videoconference from his official residence in the Parliament area.
The bridge minister said that Obaidul Quader regretted the attack on Wahida Khanam, an official of Upazila Nirbahi in Dinajpur, and said that whoever is guilty will be subject to the law. The government has taken all kinds of measures for his treatment.
He said the Corona epidemic was relatively under control, but that the situation could spiral out of control due to a lack of awareness.
Obaidul Quader said that the Awami League has so far provided food and aid to more than 1.25 crore families in the Corona and flood situation, and more than Tk 11 crore in cash assistance.
Abdur Rahman, a member of the Awami League presidium, said the government and the Awami League have demonstrated how to support the defenseless in times of calamity and misery.
