Thirty-six worshipers burned in the air conditioning blast at Talla Baitul Salah Jame Mosque in Narayanganj are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMC). The explosion occurred during Esha prayers on Friday (September 4) evening.
Dr. Samanta Lal Sen told the Bengali Tribune that most of the 36 were Major Burn. Initially, the evaluation continues, but nobody’s condition is certain. Many of the burn victims have been referred to the ICU. It is not possible to say exactly how many people they took where until it was all over. But in a word, most of them are badly burned.
Meanwhile, Fatullah OC Aslam Hossain Police Station said between 60 and 70 percent of the burned bodies were burned in the blast. He said that about 70 faithful participated in the prayers. The victims were later rescued from the air conditioning blast and sent to the burn unit at Victoria Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMC) in an emergency.
Witnesses said that many people were performing Sunnat and other prayers after the obligatory prayers. At that time there were about 40 worshipers inside the mosque. Almost all of them were burned by the explosion.
Nazmul Hossain, a doctor at Victoria Hospital in Narayanganj, said that at least 20-25 burn victims were rushed to various hospitals in the capital, including DMCH. His condition was very bad. Therefore, they were sent to Dhaka by government, private and fire ambulances in case of emergency.
Arefin, deputy deputy director of the fire service, said that after the incident, two units of the fire service arrived at the scene and rescued 8-9 people and took them to the hospital. Earlier, the locals took most of the burned people to hospital. The condition of the burn victims was so serious that their bodies could not be touched.
