5 burned in air conditioning explosion in Narayanganj mosque

At least five people were burned in an explosion in the air conditioning (AC) of the Baitus Salam Jame mosque on the west floor of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. The incident took place around 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

The injured have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. However, their identities were not immediately available.

Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy deputy director of the Narayanganj Fire and Civil Defense Service, told The Daily Star: The number of injured and burned may increase.

The cause of the explosion was not yet known, he said.

Hajiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Morshed Alam told The Daily Star: “We went to the scene and found no one burned in the air conditioning blast.”

Quoting locals, he said the air conditioning inside the mosque exploded with a loud noise around 9.45pm. At that moment, panic spread among the people inside the mosque.

The injured were taken to Narayanganj General Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said.
