The woman named Afroza Begum has been admitted to the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institution-Cripple Hospital in critical condition.

Banani OC Nure Alam Mia Police Station said a PPL Paribahan bus bound for Mohakhali picked him up at the corner in front of the Banani Sainik Club around 12 noon on Friday.

He told bdnews24.com that Afroza was a passenger on the bus. He got off the bus and crossed the street in front of the bus, the bus was driven and lifted on his right leg.

The bus was stopped but the driver escaped, the OC said.

The police rescued Afroza after the accident and took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. From there he was taken to the hospital for the disabled.

Afroza is a technical officer in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) campus of the Atomic Energy Commission.

He arrived in Dhaka by bus from his village house in Narsingdi. Deputy Inspector Abdul Qayyum said he landed in Banani to go to Kachukhet’s home.

Afroza’s right leg was crushed below the knee and his right hand was injured, he said.

Afroza Begum’s son, Al Amin, told bdnews24.com that his mother was taken to the operating room around 8 pm The surgery can last four to five hours.

“Doctors are skeptical about whether it will be possible to keep the bruised leg that way,” he said.

Director of the National Institute for Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Hospital, Prof. Abdul Gani Mollah told bdnews24.com: “We are trying not to lose our legs. However, it is difficult to say at the moment how much will be possible.”
