After a strong response, the authorities of Sundarbans Adarsh College of Khulna Government have revised the admission fee for students admitted to class XI. On Thursday night, the university’s admissions committee issued a new notice reviewing the admission fee.

In the class XI admission notice published on September 1, the fee for Muslim students was set at Tk 2,080 and for non-Muslim students at Tk 2,630. With this, a storm of criticism began in various sectors, including social networks.

In this regard, the director of the university, Professor Abhijit Basu, said that students charge admission fees for spending in more than 30 sectors. One of them is the “religious sector”. “I joined here in January 2019,” he said. Before that, the director was Professor Syed Sadiq Zahidul Islam. During his time some construction works related to the development of the school’s mosque were started. So it was decided to take an additional 50 rupees from Muslim students to cover the cost of developing the mosque under their supervision. This year also, based on the decision of the previous years, a notice was issued setting the admission fee for Muslim students at Tk 2,060 and for non-Muslim students at Tk 2,630 for class XI.

However, due to controversy on social media, it was decided to withdraw the additional 50 Tk fee, the university director said.

“We have noticed that many people view the issue in a negative light,” he said. In fact, we have just followed the continuity of previous years. But as the controversy escalated, I ordered the issuance of a new notice with equal fees for all students.
