The Ministry of the Interior reviewed the legal aspects of the application and sent it to the Ministry of Justice for its opinion. The Justice Ministry agreed to extend the stay of Begum Khaleda Zia’s family for another six months after reviewing and analyzing their request to the Ministry of the Interior and considering its legal aspects.

However, as a condition for extending the sentence for 6 months, the Ministry of Justice has said that Begum Khaleda Zia will have to be treated at home, not abroad. You cannot leave the country.

He further said that the file related to Begum Zia’s request has been sent to the Ministry of the Interior with the approval of the Ministry of Justice. The file will now be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for final approval by the Home Office. Upon the consent of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of the Interior will publish the bulletin as an executive order.

In this context, the Minister of Justice said: “We have issued an opinion on the extension of the suspension of the sentence of Begum Zia for another six months, according to the above conditions.” You cannot go abroad. We have sent our opinion to the Ministry of the Interior. The rest of the process will be completed from there.

It should be mentioned that, according to the previous decision, the six-month suspension of Begum Khaleda Zia’s sentence ends on September 24. Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in prison on February 8, 2016 in the corruption case of Zia Orphanage Trust by Dhaka Special Court No. 5 in Bakshibazar Alia Madrasa. Subsequently, on October 30, the Superior Court increased her sentence to 10 years on appeal.
