Obaidul, a young Rohingya, was not the last to be saved even after bringing the National Identity Card (NID) issued by the Election Commission. The real identity of the Rohingya is revealed through fingerprinting in separate software. Thus, a young Rohingya from Myanmar was arrested for coming to Chittagong to obtain a passport.

The young man was identified as Rohingya and handed over to police at the Regional Passport Office in Panchlaish on Thursday morning. The arrested youth Obaidul Haque (25) entered Bangladesh from Myanmar through the Cox’s Bazar border before 2016, according to passport office officials.

Masum Hasan, deputy director of the city’s Panchlaish Regional Passport Office, said Obaidul applied for a passport by presenting a copy of the Bangladesh NID issued by the Election Commission. After verifying the NID, it was seen that Obaidul obtained the NID on October 16, 2018. There he used the address of Chunti village in Chittagong’s Lohagara upazila. The date of birth is shown as April 17, 1997. The father’s name is Abul Kalam and the mother’s name is Rabia Khatun.

Masum Hasan said: “We have separate software to identify the Rohingya who came from Myanmar and took refuge in Bangladesh and to check whether the NID is correct or not.” Obaidul was identified as Rohingya in the software after giving his fingerprint.

When asked about obtaining Obaidul’s NID card, Chittagong Regional Elections Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman said: “Obaidul Haque’s NID will be verified whether it is genuine or fake.” Then action will be taken.
