The king of Thailand reinstated him almost a year after he was stripped of the title of his royal partner. It was announced in the Royal Gazette that on Wednesday King Maha Vajiralankorn returned his title and title to Sininat Ongvajirapakadi.
According to Thai custom, the king can bestow the title of royal or concert companion on someone other than his wife at will. This concert is basically a companion or partner of the king.
Sininat’s concert title was revoked in October last year, a few months after he was announced as King Vajiralankarn’s companion.
A statement from the royal family at the time said that Sininat, the king’s companion, had been punished for comparing herself to “the equal of the queen.” Many were shocked by this incident.
A century later, the king’s companion
Sininat was proclaimed as the first companion of the king in the history of the last century. Although Thai kings have been polygamous for many centuries.
The last time a Thai king was officially married was in 1920. Since the country became a constitutional monarchy in 1932, no king has accepted such a partner.
Sininat was charged with misconduct and treason against the royal family for snatching the title of the concert.
Why is dignity taken away
An announcement from the palace last year further accused Sininat of “misconduct” and “disobedience” to the royal family.
At the same time, he abused his power and began issuing orders on behalf of the king.
It says: The king learns that “he was not grateful for the title bestowed upon him and that he did not conduct himself in accordance with his dignity.”
Sininat has not been seen in public since the incident. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving office.
Now, the king’s latest decision means that “Sininat Ongvajirapakdi’s title has not been lost,” the Royal Gazette said in a statement.
“For that reason, their military and royal titles will never be revoked.”
Who is this sininat
Sininat was born in 1985 in northern Thailand.
His relationship with this woman developed when Vajiralankorn was the prince. Before, Sininat worked as a nurse.
Later he became a bodyguard, pilot, and later joined the Royal Guard of the Royal Family. In 2019, he was promoted to Major General.
In July of that year he received the Royal Nobel Concert. A few days after their debut as a new couple, a website posted some images of Sininat, which crashed as people flocked to see them.
The unprepared photos show Sininat, 34, flying in a fighter plane, in a military parade and in military uniform.
Only a few days earlier, King Vajiralankorn had married his fourth wife, Rani Suthida.
Before becoming queen, Suthida was King Vajiralankarn’s personal bodyguard and deputy chief of the bodyguard force.
But only a few months later, in October, Sininat’s position and title were revoked. At that time rumors were circulating about the cause of his sudden fall.
The royal family may never reveal the true reasons behind the theft of positions and titles and their return.
Although there was some hint from Raj Parwar as to why it was taken from him, no comment has yet been made on the return of the title.
Thai traditional law establishes the right to conceal royalties.
Any criticism of the royal family is also prohibited in the country. Violation of this law is punishable by law.
Consequences of the two wives of the king
Sininat’s removal reminded the Thai people of the fate of the king’s two former wives.
When King Vajiralankarna abandoned his second wife in 1997, he fled to the United States. He even left the four sons of the king in the house of this queen.
Then in 2014, Raja took all titles from his third wife Srirasami Soadi. He was also expelled from the royal court. His parents were also arrested. One of his sons, who was 15 years old at the time, was raised by King Vajiralankorn in Germany and Switzerland.
Most of the time the king now lives in Germany. Their total number of children is seven.
Queen Suthida was a flight attendant for Thai Airways. They have been seen meeting in public for many years before the king’s wedding. But the relationship between them was never recognized before marriage.
Even after their marriage, Sininat, the king’s companion, was seen regularly attending royal ceremonies.
Two months after marrying his fourth wife, Suthida, Sininat was proclaimed companion of the king.
Over the centuries, Thai kings have taken many wives or companions. But since 1920, the practice of officially accepting someone as a partner or concert has been discontinued.
Demand for monarchical reform
Amid anti-government protests in Thailand, it was announced on Wednesday that Sininat’s title would be removed from the palace.
The military has been controlling the country’s politics since a coup in 2014 six years ago.
Anti-government protesters have been demanding that the king’s power be reduced. Recently some of the king’s powers have been increased.
The protesters are also demanding the reform of the monarchy in Thailand, an unprecedented event in the country’s history.
The protesters also question the decision to declare the assets of the royal family as private assets.
As a result of this announcement, King Vajiralankorn became the richest man in Thailand. Previously, these assets were reserved as assets of the National Trust for the welfare of the people.
King Vajiralankorn’s decision to take command of all military units in the capital Bangkok has also been criticized. This is considered a ploy to keep Thailand’s military power in the hands of the royal family.
After the death of his father Pumipun Aduniyadet in 2016, King Vajiralankorn ascended the throne.
King Pumipon has ruled Thailand for 70 years. This is the longest reign in the history of Thailand.
