Among the three defendants who testified in court after pleading guilty to “rape and murder” in Narayanganj, boatman Khalilur Rahman has been released on bail. In an interview, he told Ittefaq: “SI Shamim, the investigating officer on the case, forced him to make a false confession for fear of the crossfire.”
Khalil repeatedly wiped away tears as he spoke to this reporter at a rented house in the Ekrampur area of the port on Thursday afternoon. Khalil, who became physically and mentally ill due to police torture, was released on court bail on Tuesday. The boatman lives with his family in Ekrampur from the port.
Khalil said that to make a false confession, they tied my hands and feet with rope, hung me upside down, tied a towel around my face, and constantly poured water into my mouth. They threatened me with death by crossfire if I didn’t confess. SI Shamim Al Mamun forced me to confess that I had been locked up in the police station for three days.
Khalil further said, YES Shamim came and took me. He showed two children (Abdullah and Rakib) in front of me at the Sadar police station and said: are you his Chinese? So I say I don’t know them. That’s when Shamim started hitting me. I don’t know those two children and teenagers. I’ve never seen them in my life. From that moment on, inhuman torture began.
Khalil and three others were arrested in a case filed on August 8 in connection with the rape and murder of a teenage schoolgirl. Khalil was given no reason after her arrest. Even when his relatives wanted to know the reason for Khalil’s arrest, the fired SI Shamim abused them.
Khalil’s father, Abdul Gafur, said: “I gave rice to the police station for two days.” The next day, when the rice was taken, the police did not put it away and did not allow it to be shown.
Khalil’s wife, Sharmin Begum, said Khalil was released on bail on Wednesday and had gone to Dhaka on Thursday to see a doctor. The doctor did some tests and I came home because I had no money. He already had the disease. The beating has made him even sicker.
The Police Superintendent said that a departmental case would be started against SI Shamim as the investigation committee found that many allegations against him were true.
By the way, on July 4, her family filed a case with the Sadar Police Station for the disappearance of a schoolgirl from Deobhog’s home in Narayanganj. The police arrested three people named Khalil, Abdullah and Rakib. They later testified in court. There they confessed to having kidnapped, raped and murdered the body and to have floated it in the Shitalakshya river, while the girl returned on August 23, 51 days after the incident. She is now in the custody of the family according to the court order. After returning, the teenager told the court that she was going to marry a young man named Iqbal and that she would have a family in a rented house in the Bandar area. Abdullah, Rakib and Iqbal, the teenager’s husband, are still in jail in connection with the incident.
