The government is considering releasing new tigers into the forests of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. A survey has already been passed to determine if tigers can be released into the area and if they can survive if the tigers are reintroduced there.
Quoting Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury, BBC Bangla reports that before the new tigers are released, the forest in the southeastern part of the country will be surveyed to see if there is a suitable environment and food for the tigers to live there and if it exists. some threat to tigers. .
The forestry official said the survey would be conducted through a wildlife expert. They will track the presence of tigers in the hills. If not, if they have habitat and food environment. At the same time, we will see if the tigers will survive if they leave there.
Now there are only tiger habitats in the Sundarbans. Although at some point there were tiger walks in most areas. According to the latest tiger census, only a hundred tigers survive in the Sundarbans after large numbers of tigers were killed by poachers.
The Chief Conservator of Forests said the feasibility study on tigers in the Chittagong Hill Tracts has already been approved by the Ministry of Forests and Environment and experts will be appointed soon. Arrangements will be made to complete the survey by June of next year.
Amir Hossain Chowdhury believes that the possible presence of tigers in the region may come from India or Myanmar. That is why the study was decided based on the question of whether tigers can be reintroduced there.
