Some of the most controversial cartoons about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) have been republished by the French romantic magazine Shirley Abdo. His office was attacked in 2015 for publishing these cartoons.
The BBC reports that the trial of 14 suspected conspirators will begin on Wednesday on suspicion of involvement in an Islamist attack on the office of the French romance magazine Shirley Abdo five years ago. The day before, Shirley Abdo had relaunched some of the most controversial cartoons in the world.
According to the report, all 14 were involved in the alleged attack on the alleged conspirator, Shirley Abdo, on January 8, 2015, in a firearm attack carried out by two brothers.
Twelve people, including renowned cartoonists, were killed in the attack. A few days later, five people were killed in another attack in Paris.
The attack was followed by a series of jihadist attacks in France.
The latest issue of Shirley Abdo has reprinted the 12 original cartoon images of the Prophet. The cartoons were also published in a Danish newspaper before they were published in Shirley Ebdo.
The magazine editor has been told that they have been repeatedly asked to continue to print satirical cartoons of the Prophet since the 2015 assassination.
“We have always denied this request. There are no legal restrictions on the publication of such cartoons. But there must be a valid reason for publishing such cartoons, a reason that it would be reasonable to bring to the fore for the sake of controversy,” the editorial said.
“Since the trial for the January 2015 terrorist attack is scheduled to begin this week, we need to republish the cartoons,” he said. BBC
