A court ordered the arrest of 63 Bangladeshis returning from Vietnam and Qatar under article 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

On Tuesday (September 1), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satbrata Sikder ordered that they be sent to jail.

Relevant court sources confirmed the information.

Sources said that on Tuesday, the police sent the defendants to court requesting to show their arrest under section 54. At the same time, the investigator of the case requested to keep them in jail until the investigation of the case is completed. Following their appeal, the judge ordered that they be sent to prison.

It is known that at different times, these 63 people were quarantined in the capital’s Uttara after returning to the country from abroad. Turag OC Nurul Mottakin Police Station said they were arrested under Section 54 on Tuesday morning.

Uttara (DC) Division Deputy Commissioner Nabid Kamal Shaibal said that two of the 63 arrested had returned from Qatar, while the rest had returned to Vietnam. They were imprisoned in that country for being involved in a crime there. They were later sent back to Bangladesh. However, we still don’t know exactly what kind of crime they committed.
