For this reason, the parliamentary commission has asked to be vigilant in Bangladeshi missions abroad so that the labor market for expatriate labor is not reduced. The committee meeting recommended that the missions intensify diplomatic activities in this regard.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Expatriate Welfare and Employment Abroad held in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday afternoon.
Committee meeting chaired by Anisul Islam Mahmud, committee member, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Employment Abroad Imran Ahmed, Professor. Ali Ashraf, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Ayesha Ferdous and Pankaj Nath and interested officials were present.
According to committee sources, the meeting called for a swift implementation of the initiative to send workers to alternative labor markets in Cambodia, Poland, China, Romania, Croatia and Seychelles. Furthermore, Bangladeshi workers who lost their jobs in different countries due to the coronavirus were instructed to take appropriate measures to be able to return to that country in the future.
The meeting reported that Tk 11 crore worth of medicines and relief items have been distributed to distressed and unemployed expatriate workers through the Labor Welfare Wing of the Bangladesh Mission with the help of expatriate workers and that they return. In addition, the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board has launched a project with World Bank funding for the reintegration of returning workers.
