The country’s public transport, including the capital Dhaka, has returned to the previous rate of the Corona period. However, the rent anarchy hasn’t stopped yet. There are reports of overcharges. In addition, public transport has also been seen less. Transportation drivers and attendants have been seen arguing with passengers about fares. Passengers complain that the shuttles do not take the above rate voluntarily unless they are reminded of the above rate. And for all these reasons, there have been fights with passengers in different places.

On the morning of Tuesday (September 1), several areas of the city were visited and it was found that the number of passengers in the transports has increased but the number of transports has decreased. It was a little more in the morning but a lot less in the afternoon. The reason for this, transportation officials say, is that once a transport used to carry half of the passengers. Now there is passenger transport filling 100% of their seats. The number of passengers did not increase even after returning to the previous rate. That is why the number of buses is less.Public transportation (Photo: Shahed Shafiq)

Despite the announcement to return the old fare in transportation, passengers have still complained about the arbitrary collection of the fare. Even then, they have expressed satisfaction with the rent reduction.

In the morning, it was seen in the Fakirapul area, the buses are circulating with passengers in each seat. Nowhere was complete hygiene observed. No masks were seen on the faces of most of the passengers. No use of hand sanitizer.

Going to the Shahbagh intersection, it has been seen that each transport has passengers in all seats. At the time, a Midway Paribahan passenger told the Bangla Tribune: “Drivers should be reminded about the old fare. Otherwise they will keep the 60% increase in rent for the crowning period. I have done that too.

According to the predetermined rate of the Corona period, the rate of this road is 18 rupees, during the Corona period, 35 rupees were collected from here. But today they got 20 rupees back from him.

Bihang Paribahan’s driver Samsuddin said: ‘We are charging the old fee. But some passengers don’t want to pay that fare. This is why some people get in trouble. Also, no passenger is transported out of the seats. There are BRTA mobile courts on every corner. They are paying fines.

Public transportation (Photo: Shahed Shafiq)Khandaker Enayet Ullah, Secretary General of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association, said: “We have written to all owners informing them of the government’s decision.” You cannot charge a stopped bus or an increased fare. If someone does or a complaint is received from a passenger, legal action and organizational measures will be taken against the transport.

BRTA (Compliance) Deputy Director Mohammad Abdur Razzak said: “We have several mobile courts operating throughout the city to investigate other transportation irregularities, including fare controls. They are taking care of these things. If someone breaks the law or disobeys the government’s instructions, immediate action will be taken.
