The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges and Secretary General of the Awami League, Obaidul Quader, has said that legal action will be taken against those who do not comply with government directives. Many drive according to transport regulations. Even in Corona, many have followed the rules. But some do not follow the transport rules. Legal action will be taken against those who do not follow the government’s instructions.
Obaidul Quader made the remarks at an exchange meeting with officials from the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) on Tuesday. Obaidul Quader joined the meeting via videoconference from his official residence.
The road transport minister said there is a provision to display the list of government-approved fares on each bus. I ask the BRTA and the homeowners association to implement this provision.
Regarding the return to the previous rate, Obaidul Quader said: “As of today, public transport has returned to the previous rate instead of the adjusted rate for the Corona period.” In the public interest and in the interest of passengers, I seek the cooperation of all stakeholders, including transportation owners and workers, to implement this government decision. When traveling by public transport, everyone involved in the transport, including passengers, must wear a mandatory mask.
He said that the more seats, the more passengers. In other words, passengers cannot stand. Soapy water or hand sanitizer should be kept. In addition, at the beginning and end of the trip, the transport must be well disinfected.
Asking everyone involved in transportation to abide by the rules, the bridge minister said: “I am requesting everyone involved in transportation across the country to abide by these public interest rules or conditions and operate minibuses.” I call on the law enforcement agencies, especially the DMP, the highway police, the district police and the district administration concerned, to be actively involved in this regard.
Calling for organizational activities to be carried out in accordance with health standards, the secretary general of the Awami League said: “Our month of mourning is over.” I urge the Awami League of Bangladesh and its affiliates to start their organizing activities from the center down to the grassroots level in compliance with the Hygiene Rules.
He said some instructions would come tomorrow at a party secretariat meeting, adding that a meeting of the party’s central executive committee would be held this month under the chairmanship of Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Organizational decisions will be made there.
