Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee has said goodbye to the colorful path of life. During this time he died of coronavirus, in addition to other physical problems. Pranab Mukherjee was not only the president of India, he was the most respected politician in modern India. The modern path of Indian politics began at the hand of Pranab Mukherjee. He is also the key player in bringing India to the top of the diplomatic world. We have lost a faithful friend from Bangladesh in his death. Today, when I sat down to write about Pranab Mukherjee, his long brain-dependent political path came to the fore. He has come a long way and held the highest constitutional office in India.
Pranab Mukherjee has played an important role in our great liberation war. At the urging of Indira Gandhi, he traveled through European countries in support of Bangladesh with small carry-on bags. The five-foot-five-inch man later got the support of Bangladesh from Germany and England. That young leader of the Indira government in 1971 became the brilliant politician of modern India. He was also able to create his own unique ring.
With my permission, I published an article on Bangabandhu for his edited book ‘Shatavarshe Bangabandhu’, published on the occasion of the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth on March 17th this year. I have highlighted an important part of that article:
“Even after serving as President of India, I will never forget Bengalism. This is the first time that a library of Bengali books has been created at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Raisina Hills during my tenure. There are many books published in Bangladesh. This one. library contains Bangabandhu’s ‘unfinished autobiography’. It seems to me that this book is the only authentic document known about Bangabandhu. Even today I am inspired by Bangabandhu’s philosophy of life, I am proud of him as a Bengali. In fact, no nation You can be great without being proud of your ethnicity. That’s my first lesson from the life of Bangabandhu.
Of course, Indira Gandhi, my role model in politics, knew much more about Bangabandhu than I did. Remember, Indira Gandhi once warned Bangabandhu about the doubt of life; But Bangabandhu’s response was: ‘They are my children. Because you kill me? But he died at the hands of a part of that army. His murder has been tried, but I still have doubts as to what part of the murder plot has been uncovered. Now we all know who the killers are in general.
We have seen that Bangabandhu created Bangladesh by fighting against the Pakistani rulers. But after coming to power, he took the initiative to maintain normal relations with Pakistan. Because he was the promoter of a very liberal policy. In 1964 he went to Lahore. He met with the Pakistani rulers and established normal diplomatic relations. However, the main reason was that the main purpose was to bring back the Bengalis who had remained in Pakistan. I think that Bangabandhu’s foreign policy was not aligned. Israel recognized Bangladesh as one of the first countries to be anti-Pakistan. But Bangabandhu sided with Egypt during the 1963 Arab-Israeli War.
When I think of Bangabandhu, the first thing that comes to mind is his speech. I can say that in this case Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the best public leader in Asia. His eloquence is fair. Later he crossed the borders of Asia and became an international leader. It is regrettable in Asia that such great statesmen have to die prematurely. If Bangabandhu, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Bandaranaike were alive, Asia would look different today. Today there is a great lack of visionary statesmen.
He was not in Delhi the day he and his family were killed; I was in Calcutta. I couldn’t speak for a while after hearing the news about Akashvani. He was devastated to lose a relative. Later, I got a call from Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and ran to Delhi. It seemed that the evil forces had killed Bangabandhu, perhaps they would not stop there. It will lead the newly created Bangladesh back to the kingdom of darkness. So the government of Bharat made all kinds of preparations. Fortunately for us, the worthy daughters of Bangabandhu, Hasina and Rehana, were not in Dhaka that day. So today Bangladesh is being ruled again under the Mujib ideology. I say, ‘mujibismo’. That is their philosophy; Worldview.
Let me tell you that I did not know Bangabandhu personally from the beginning. After Bangladesh became independent, he was released from prison in Pakistan and came to Delhi from London, the first face-to-face encounter. Seeing the tall, thunderous man filled my heart with respect. Much was said. Then Indira Gandhi showed me and said: ‘The man’s name is Pranab, he ran to win the support of the world for you. I have benefited a lot from him to get international support. At the time I was a bit embarrassed to hear Bangabandhu express personal gratitude towards me.
In the 1970s, we saw the names of Bangabandhu and Bangladesh all over the world. Bangladesh’s liberation war under the leadership of Bangabandhu is an ideal for the oppressed and exploited people around the world. Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh has always fascinated me. After being elected President of India, I decided that Bangabandhu’s first overseas trip would be to Bangladesh. However, the desire to return to Bangladesh remains. This time I will go as an ordinary citizen of India; Like Bengali “.
Pranab Mukherjee’s path in Indian parliamentary politics began in 1989. In 1962, Pranab Mukherjee left the West Bengal Congress and ascended to the All India Congress. In 1973, Pranab Mukherjee was elected to the Indian cabinet for the first time. Then he was deputy minister. In a very short time, he was able to quickly build his personality in Indian politics with his keen intelligence. Deputy Minister in 1973, Minister of State in 1984 and Independent in 1975.
Then a state of emergency was declared and he grew closer to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her youngest son Sanjay Gandhi. At that time, the state of emergency was being condemned throughout the country by the congressional government of Indira Gandhi. As the days passed, the anti-government movement was gathering momentum. Congress lost the 1987 elections in India, which were held after the state of emergency. After that great defeat, most of the great leaders of the Congress left Indira Gandhi and left the Congress. But Pranab Mukherjee did not leave Indira Gandhi, he has solidified with Congress. In 1987, Congress was divided. None of the top leaders are next to Indira Gandhi. The sad melody of despair in Indira’s camp. The only exception is Pranab Mukherjee, who remains firm in his decision with his sharp intelligence, and continues to command the Congress on the side of Indira Gandhi.
Pranab Mukherjee’s brilliant collaboration helped Indira Gandhi spend time in political danger. Pranab Mukherjee secured Indira Gandhi’s next seat in congressional politics at that critical time. The tireless efforts of Pranab Mukherjee turned the Congress of Indira upside down; In 1960, Indira Gandhi regained his seat of power with great pomp. In 1970, Pranab Mukherjee became the second most powerful person in India.
Pranab Mukherjee received the award for taking the helm of the party from Indira Gandhi’s side during Indira Gandhi’s peril from 1986 to 1980. After returning to power in 1980, Pranab Mukherjee was appointed Minister of the Union by Indira Gandhi. He was simultaneously the Finance Minister of the Union of India and the main leader of Rajya Sabha.
Until the murder of Indira Gandhi in 1984, he was the second most powerful person in Indira’s cabinet. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the bad times of Pranab Mukherjee began in Congress. He was expelled from Congress at the beginning of Rajiv Gandhi’s term as Prime Minister. After being expelled, Pranab Mukherjee maintained his political existence by forming a separate party. He had to stay out of Congress for four years.
In 1969, Congress was forced to withdraw Pranab Mukherjee. Although he returned to the team, he was far from second highest. After Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991, Narsingh Rao’s authority was established in the party and government and the revival of Pranab Mukherjee started from the beginning of that Narsingh era. He first obtained the position of Vice President of the Planning Commission. He later became Minister of Commerce and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
From 1996 to 2004, Congress was the main opposition party in India. Despite being in the opposition, he held important positions in Congress. In 2004, the Congress-led UPA alliance returned to power under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister. Pranab Mukherjee also became the second most powerful person in Manmohan Singh’s cabinet. At first he was Minister of Defense. Later he became Minister of Finance. Pranab Mukherjee had to retire from active politics in 2012 and held the post of president, the highest constitutional post in India.
Another new chapter in the life of Pranab Mukherjee was that of embellishing the office of president. The world has seen many as the president of India. But the most powerful politician like Pranab Mukherjee has not been seen as the next president of India. As a result, Pranab Mukherjee did not remain just the president as the constitutional head of India. As president, he became the de facto guardian of India and Indian politics.
Pranab Mukherjee became president of India in 2012. The forty-five years he had spent in Indian politics prior to that, and the brilliant presence he had on the portico of power, were an honorable way for him to leave politics. active as president.
Stepping out of a remote village in Birbhum, West Bengal, India, and finally reaching the highest position in the country is nothing short of a fairy tale. Pranab Mukherjee honorably completed his term as the highest constitutional office in India.
Pranab Mukherjee did not have the family circle that dominated congressional politics. His father was an anti-British freedom fighter. Behind his success was his extraordinary memory and keen intellect. The current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, also respected Pranab Mukherjee and followed his advice on various issues. After Mahatma Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee was the only universally revered leader in modern India. Pranab Mukherjee was a well established iconic name in the political history of India.
After retiring from the presidency in 2016, Pranab Mukherjee was apparently not in active politics. Despite turning away from active politics, he became the universal guardian of Indian politics, regardless of his party affiliation. The death of Pranab Mukherjee created a great vacuum in the politics of the subcontinent. And Bangladesh lost a faithful friend. He was the savior of Bangladesh in all political crises.
