Tribute to Pranab Mukherjee by the President-Prime Minister, afternoon funeral

President Ramnath Kobind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have paid their last respects to former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. At the same time, Vice President Benakia Naidu and the head of the three Armed Forces also paid their respects.

Political leaders at various levels, including the leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, also paid their respects.

They paid their last respects to the late Bharat Ratna on Tuesday (September 1) morning. The body of the veteran congressional leader lies at Pranab Mukherjee residence 10, Rajaji Marg in Delhi. There, prominent political personalities came one by one to pay their last respects.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Om Birla Chairman, Defense Chief of Staff Bipin Rawat, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhaduria and Air Chief of Staff Admiral Karambir Singh presented their latest regards to Pranab Mukherjee.

The last rites of Pranab Mukherjee will be performed on Tuesday afternoon with all the honors of the state. The central government has declared seven days of state mourning for his death. During these seven days the national flag will be hoisted at half mast. On the other hand, the West Bengal state government declared Tuesday a public holiday for the death of the former president and pride of Bengal ‘Pranab Babu’.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will also observe a day of state mourning for the death of Pranab Mukherjee. The government said in a statement that a state duel would be held in honor of Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday (September 2). The national flag will be at half mast.

Earlier on Monday (August 31), Pranab Mukherjee breathed his last while undergoing treatment. He was 74 years old. The veteran congressional leader was admitted to the Army Research and Reference Hospital in Delhi for approximately three weeks. He fell on August 9 and injured his head. He was admitted to the Army Research and Reference Hospital on August 10 due to a neurological problem. The operation was performed on his head the same day. He was already infected with the corona virus.

Pranab Mukherjee is the thirteenth president of India. Before becoming the country’s president in 2012, Pranab Mukherjee served as finance minister on several occasions. He has been Finance Minister to various governments since 1980. Loyal and exceptionally wise, this Bengali is respected throughout India. In August last year, he received India’s highest civil honor, the Bharat Ratna.
