The last rites of Pranab Mukherjee will be performed on Tuesday afternoon with all the honors of the state. The central government has declared seven days of state mourning for his death. During these seven days the national flag will be hoisted at half mast. On the other hand, the West Bengal state government declared Tuesday a public holiday for the death of the former president and pride of Bengal ‘Pranab Babu’.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh will also observe a day of state mourning for the death of Pranab Mukherjee. The government said in a statement that a state duel would be held in honor of Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday (September 2). The national flag will be at half mast.
Earlier on Monday (August 31), Pranab Mukherjee breathed his last while undergoing treatment. He was 74 years old. The veteran congressional leader was admitted to the Army Research and Reference Hospital in Delhi for approximately three weeks. He fell on August 9 and injured his head. He was admitted to the Army Research and Reference Hospital on August 10 due to a neurological problem. The operation was performed on his head the same day. He was already infected with the corona virus.
Pranab Mukherjee is the thirteenth president of India. Before becoming the country’s president in 2012, Pranab Mukherjee served as finance minister on several occasions. He has been Finance Minister to various governments since 1980. Loyal and exceptionally wise, this Bengali is respected throughout India. In August last year, he received India’s highest civil honor, the Bharat Ratna.
