The skeleton was recovered from the side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh road in the Gargarhia Masterbari area of Beherarchala village in Sreepur municipality on Monday morning, Sreepur OC Khandaker Imam Hossain Police Station said.

Police say the skeleton was claimed by relatives of Sohan, 14, the son of local Abbas Ali. Sohan, a fourth-grader at the Abul Pradhan kindergarten in the area, disappeared about a month ago.

Sohan’s father said their son had not been found since the afternoon of August 3. A general diary was also kept at the Sreepur Police Station on behalf of the family. After receiving the news from the locals in the morning, he went to the place and saw the yellow shirt, jeans and shoes next to the skeleton and confirmed that it belonged to Sohan.

Sohan’s mother, Nazma Begum, said that on the afternoon of August 3, Sohan went to her aunt Selina Begum’s house in the local litchi garden area. Later, she took 20 rupees from her aunt and went to the store next door, left the house and disappeared.

“However, the locals said they saw Sohan with Azizul Haque, son of local Safar Uddin, at the Walton crossing that night.”

Aziz is a drug addict. Nazma said there were several drug cases against him.

In this regard, the CO said, a DNA test will be carried out to confirm whether the recovered skeleton belongs to Sohan or not. A case against Azizul is being prepared at the Sreepur Police Station.
