A human skeleton has been recovered from a rubbish heap near the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gargarhia Masterbari in the Sreepur municipal area of Gazipur. Police recovered the skeleton on Monday afternoon.
Sreepur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Moniruzzaman Khan said relatives claimed the skeleton was that of a child who disappeared about a month ago. Family members identified the skeleton as the boy by looking at the shirt, pants, and shoes next to the skeleton.
The boy’s name is Sohan (10). He is the son of Abbas Ali from Baherarchala village in Sreepur municipal area. Sohan was a fourth-class student from Abul Pradhan Kindergarten in that village.
Police Inspector (Investigation) Moniruzzaman Khan said that after seeing the signs, they initially thought the body had been burned in a garbage pile.

Sohan’s mother, Nazma Begum, said Sohan went to her sister’s home in the nearby Lichu Bagan area on the afternoon of August 3. Sohan left the house with 20 rupees from his sister and disappeared. At night, some people saw Sohan with Azizul Haque, son of neighbor Safar Uddin. Nazma Begum complained that Azizul was addicted to drugs. After picking up her son and killing her, Azizul tried to hide her body by burning it in the fire. Azizul has been on the run since the incident.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Imam Hossain said DNA testing would be conducted to determine whether the skeleton belonged to the missing boy Sohan.
