Sadia Islam Mau, an eighth grade student, died in a homosexual affair with her older sister.
According to locals, Sadia, daughter of Abdul Quddus from Chowdhury Bargachha area in Natore town and an eighth grade student at Bargachha girls’ school, fell in love with her sister-in-law’s older sister, Rupa Khatun. Although Rupa is a woman, the man has a love affair with Sadia under the name Sej Rupa and later they also became involved in homosexuality.
At one point, after fleeing with Sadia on August 21, Rupa returned home with him on August 24.
On the same day, Rupa and Sadia were rescued by their families after consuming poisonous tablets. Rupa’s family took them to Natore Sadar Hospital. But when their condition deteriorated, they were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where Sadia died. Rupa survives.
Sadia’s brother Sonny and his cousin Johnny complained that Sadia’s body was secretly buried on August 25, the day after her death. After that, Rupa Khatun went into hiding.
Rupar’s relatives alleged that Sadia was tortured and killed by consuming poisonous tablets.
However, Rupa’s father, Rubel Hossain, replied that Sadia’s family members had given both of them poisonous tablets due to homosexuality.
Meanwhile, after the incident came to light, Sadia’s locals and relatives organized a sit-in at the old Kanaikhali bus stop on Saturday to demand justice for Sadia’s murder.
According to police sources, Natore Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Matin visited Sadia’s home on Saturday night and said a case would be brought about it, but Sadia’s mother, Sufia Begum, said she had decided get the autopsy report.
Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Matin said: “We have nothing to do if the family does not present a case.”
