The Awami League will finalize the party’s candidates in the by-elections of the country’s 5 parliamentary seats today. 141 people have submitted nomination forms to get tickets to the party in those seats. The list of candidates is now on the Prime Minister’s table. A short list has also been created as there are more candidates competing. The Prime Minister has already verified and monitored the field with his own sources. A number of questions have been raised, including the personal image and popularity of the candidates, and their position in the ranks. In light of the report, reliable sources said that the party’s candidate will be finalized after a grisly analysis at a meeting of the party’s nominating board at the prime minister’s official residence in Ganobhaban.

Recently, in the death of Israfil Alam MP, Naogaon-6, in the death of Mohammad Nasim MP, Sirajganj-1, in the death of Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu MP, in Pabna-4, in the death of Habibur Rahman Mollah MP, Dhaka-5 seats and on the death of Advocate Sahara Khatun MP, Dhaka was vacated. There has been much speculation among leaders and activists for a long time as to whether any of the MP’s relatives or relatives are receiving nominations for those five seats, or if someone new is being nominated outside of the MP’s family.

It is known that there is a lot of interest among leaders and activists about the two headquarters of the capital. The Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, AFM Deputy General Secretary Bahauddin Nasim, and Organization Secretary BM Mozammel Haque did not win the party’s nomination in the last parliamentary elections. Among the three, Jahangir Kabir Nanak was the deputy of the Dhaka-13 constituency. The other two were deputies from their respective electoral districts. Since two seats in Dhaka are empty, they too are sitting motionless inside. Leaders especially are a bit more interested in the Dhaka-17 constituency. However, a maximum of 57 people have submitted nomination forms to obtain tickets for the party in that district.

The Sahara Khatun defender’s nephew, Anisur Rahman, is also among them. The deputy’s son, Mashiur Rahman Mollah Sajal, is in the Dhaka-5 constituency. His record is not very positive for the high command of the team. Apart from that, Habibur Rahman Mollah was a deputy for three consecutive terms. From 1996 to 2019, he obtained party ballots 5 times in a row and won the elections four times. Other worthy leaders have been deprived in this long time. As a result, considering all this, the issue of giving tickets to someone other than the MP’s family is also being considered. They include Jatrabari League President Thana Awami, Kazi Monirul Islam Manu, and General Secretary Harunar Rashid Munna, Senior League Co-President Demra Thana Awami, and Atiqur Rahman, District Councilor No. 80 of DSCC.

The president of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Volunteer League, Kamrul Hasan Ripon, is at the mercy of the Prime Minister as a young student leader. Additionally, JSD co-chair Md Shahidul Islam is also being considered as a leading alliance candidate. Furthermore, 34 candidates in Naogaon-6, 28 in Pabna-4, 20 in Dhaka-5 and three in Sirajganj-1 have submitted nomination forms to obtain tickets for the Awami League. Among them are Tanvir Shakil Joy, son of Mohammad Nasim in Sirajganj-1 constituency, Sultana Parveen, wife of Israfil Alam in Naogaon-6 constituency, and Kamrunnahar Sharif, wife of Shamsur Rahman Dilu in Pabna-4 constituency , son Galibur Rahman Sharif and daughter of Azad-Shirin Mehzabin in the Mehzabin constituency. Cousin Bashir Ahmed has submitted the form to get the Awami League ticket.

Regarding the completion of the party’s candidates in the 5-seat by-election of Jatiya Sangsad, a member of the Awami League presidium and one of the members of the Board of Nominations Lt. Colonel (retired) Farooq Khan told him to Naya Digant that there is a meeting tomorrow (today). The meeting will decide on the nomination. Honest, worthy and selfless candidates will be evaluated. When asked if the nomination would be awarded outside the deputy’s family, he said: “Nothing can be said now.” If I go to the meeting and speak, I will understand who gets the nomination.
