BNP President Begum Khaleda Zia suspended her 18-year sentence and demanded unconditional permanent bail. After getting bail, she wants to go to London for advanced treatment. To do this, her brother Shamim Eskander has written to the government on behalf of Khaleda Zia. She submitted her application to the Interior Ministry on August 25.
Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said: “We have received a request from Khaleda Zia’s family to suspend the sentence.” The decision will be made with the opinion of the Ministry of Justice. For this reason, a copy of the request has been sent to the Ministry of Justice.
The petition states that Khaleda Zia, who has been out on bail for six months since March 25 due to the Corona-era disaster, could not be adequately treated and a physical examination could not be performed to confirm her treatment. Meanwhile, public transportation and businesses, including offices and courts, which had been paralyzed by the corona virus, have begun to return to normal, according to the petition. This has created an opportunity for Khaleda Zia’s treatment and related physical examination. Khaleda Zia’s age, physical illness and humanitarian reasons applied for her permanent release. The application also states that there should be no impediment to going abroad for advanced treatment. Begum Zia’s lawyer said the government can also commute the sentence if it wants. So far he has not violated any bail conditions.

Previously, the government suspended Khaleda Zia’s sentence for six months at the request of her family and she was released on the condition that she be released on March 25. It will complete six months on September 25. She has been in jail for more than two years since February 8, 2016 in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases. Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at her rented house ‘Firoza’ in Gulshan for the past six months as a condition of her release. She did not go abroad for advanced treatment. She made no political statements or statements after her temporary release. She had no such formal meeting. You have just exchanged greetings with the leaders of the standing committee on the last Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha.
There are 36 cases against Khaleda Zia. Of these, 16 cases are in process. Khaleda Zia has been serving his sentence in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases since February 8, 2016. He has been sentenced to 18 years in two cases. 6-year-old Khaleda Zia suffers from diabetes and arthritic and eye problems. You cannot walk without the help of others.
Meanwhile, senior party leaders know nothing about Begum Zia’s request for bail. Lawyer Jamir Uddin Sarkar, a member of the BNP’s standing committee, said that Khaleda Zia’s family was investigating the bail request. I heard that your family has applied. I hope the government will grant you a permanent and unconditional bond considering your age and physical condition.
