The operation against the Taliban militants was again a great success for the Afghan security forces. In the past two days, 44 Taliban militants, including three commanders, have been killed in security operations in the northern province of Kunduz.

The Afghan army made the announcement on Saturday. The three Taliban commanders killed were Qari Abdullah alias Hijran, Mullah Khairullah alias Qari Ahmad and Qari Hafiz. All were commanders of local Taliban armed groups.

However, the Taliban have yet to comment on the matter. However, political observers believe that the Taliban could launch a major offensive against innocent people in retaliation.

The statement quoted the senior army commander, Gen. Adam Khan Matin, as saying 36 more insurgents had been injured during the ongoing crackdown.

Clashes between Taliban and Afghan militants and US security forces have turned bloody in Afghanistan over the past two decades. The Taliban reached a gentlemen’s agreement with US forces earlier this year. Under the agreement, the withdrawal of US troops from Afghan soil has also begun. The Pentagon will withdraw all US troops from Afghanistan within 14 months.
