Israel’s Supreme Court has ordered the elimination of Jewish settlements in the West Bank that have been occupied by Palestinians.
Israel’s Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a 2016 district court ruling in response to appeals from aggrieved Palestinians.
Al Jazeera reports that the Palestinians want the West Bank as part of their future state. Three million Palestinians live there. About four and a half million Israelis have settled among them.
It is known that when the district court granted legal rights to settlers on Palestinian lands, they did not know that these lands were shown as Palestinian on the original map. There are 40 families who settled on the top of a hill in the Jordan Valley 20 years ago, most of them living on land owned by Palestinians.
They claim that they have received approval from the Israeli authorities to live there. The Supreme Court, however, said that the Israeli authorities had done the work unfairly and that they had ignored the fair ownership of the Palestinians.
