According to multiple sources from the industrial police, workers and employees were supposed to receive a payment on Wednesday, but were agitated because they were not receiving their wages. Workers began protesting on Wednesday morning without entering the factory. Later, several workers destroyed the factory.
Confirming vandalism inside the factory, a senior industrial police official said the workers had demanded payment of the arrears. Although the owner wants time, the workers do not accept it.
In the morning, the additional police superintendent of the Ashulia Industrial Police, Mahmud Naser Johnny, said: “Additional policemen with water cannons have been deployed outside the factory to deal with the unpleasant situation.”
Media personnel were unable to enter the factory due to the heat situation. No official statement was received from the factory authorities in this regard.
Meanwhile, authorities closed two separate swing floors in Dhaka’s export processing zone after two workers were caught with coronavirus at a clothing factory called Hope Lun BD.
