The prime minister launched the cash assistance distribution program by pressing a Ganobhaban button on Thursday.

Subsequently, the central bank issued a circular directing the four mobile financial service providers to provide uninterrupted services to ensure that beneficiaries receive the money before Eid.

The directive says that to provide this cash assistance, arrangements must be made to open an account by verifying the National Identity Card Number (NID) according to the list of beneficiaries provided by the Ministry of Finance.

At the same time, to successfully complete cash assistance distribution activities, it is necessary to ensure an adequate cash supply at the agent point.

The government has allocated Rs 1.25 billion to provide this cash assistance to 5 million families. About two million people will benefit from this cash assistance for four members of each family.

To provide this cash assistance, a list of victims has been compiled by a committee composed of the district administration, the upazila administration, the president of the parishad union, members, teachers and “dignitaries” of the society.

The list includes rickshaw shooters, van drivers, day laborers, construction workers, farm workers, store workers, workers in various private businesses, poultry farm workers, transportation workers, and street vendors.

The postal department’s mobile financial services will go to families of 18 lakh via cash, 15 lakh via bKash, 10 lakh via rocket and 6 lakh via SureCash.

The government will also bear the cost of sending money. Recipients do not have to pay any costs to withdraw that money.

Tanvir A Mishuk, Managing Director, Cash, told bdnews24.com: “Since the Prime Minister’s official inauguration, so far we have given money to 200,000 families in cash.

“It’s actually the ‘Prime Minister’s Eid gift’; that’s why the central bank has instructed us to make sure everyone gets money before Eid. We will deliver all the money in seven days.”
